CHSPR Seminar | Contemporary Developments in Australian Health Policy

Stephen Duckett, Honorary Professor, University of Melbourne

Thursday, Sept 19, 2024
12-1 pm PDT
Register to attend virtually (via Zoom), or in-person at SPPH (room 201). Stephen Duckett will speak in-person.

A new Labor government in Australia, elected in 2022, brought with it a reforming health minister, Mark Butler. Butler started a reform process in primary care – which is ongoing – and also started to modernise aspects of mental health provision. The directions of change will be outlined in this presentation, making comparisons with Canada (where possible).

Dr Stephen Duckett is an Honorary Enterprise Professor in the School of Population and Global Health and in the Department of General Practice and Primary Care at the University of Melbourne. He has held top health sector leadership positions in Australia and Alberta and literally wrote the book on the Australian health care system (Oxford University Press, 2022). An economist, he is a Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia, and of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences.

Register in advance for this seminar. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. A light lunch will be provided for in-person registrants.
