An application to family physician practice

Age-period-cohort (APC) modelling can be used disentangle the relative effects of age, period and cohort on social and epidemiological phenomena. This talk covers the application of APC models in health services research, and the advantages and disadvantages of the approach. We also discuss the results of APC modelling of family physician practice, and the implications of our findings for health human resource policy in Canada.

David Rudoler (he/him) is an applied health services researcher with expertise in health policy, health economics, administrative data analysis, and mixed methods. His research interests are in primary care and mental health services. David is the Research Chair in Population Health and Innovation in Mental Health at Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences and an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Ontario Tech University.

Margaret Jamieson (she/her) is a 4th year PhD candidate in Health Economics at the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Economics and Mathematics from UBC. Margaret’s research interests include health human resources and labour economics, mental health and addictions research, and using quantitative methods for health services research. Margaret has worked with research institutes within the University of Toronto, within Toronto, and with national and international stakeholders.
