Anthony Chen is the Data Quality Coordinator for the BC Primary Health Care Research Network (BC-PHCRN) Data Repository. He is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and consistency of electronical medical record data from partner clinics. His work focuses on identifying and fixing data quality issues and supporting data standardization across sources within the repository.
Eden Ghirmay is a research assistant working with the Centre for Advancing Health Outcomes on a quality improvement project that assesses surgical patients and patients who have recently experienced a stroke. Eden’s experience with the project has affirmed her enthusiasm for growing her career in the field of public health. Eden’s research interests range from improving healthcare systems, health policy and digital healthcare strategies.
Andy Gibb is the Data Manager for the BC Primary Health Care Research Network (BC-PHCRN) Data Repository. Andy has an extensive, published track record in scientific research. He works to solve programming issues, implement automation algorithms, and ensures the data are secure and meet the highest privacy standards.
Josh Goguen is a research assistant working with the Centre for Advancing Health Outcomes on various projects for Drs. Jason Sutherland, Sabrina Wong, and Kirsten Marchand. He specializes in data analysis and programming needs for CHSPR, and is interested in research that bridges the gap between data, technology, and policy.
Joyce Huang oversees planning, implementing and managing the operational, financial and human resources activities of CHSPR and the W. Maurice Young Centre for Applied Ethics (CAE). She coordinates and assists all research groups in CHSPR and CAE to resolve any issues that arise from daily activities.
Emel Islamzada is a research coordinator with the BC Primary Health Care Research Network, supporting the BC implementation of PREPARED, a national study focused on pandemic preparedness and respiratory disease surveillance. Her work includes research ethics and regulatory coordination, study implementation across clinical and community settings, site engagement and recruitment, and collaboration across research, clinical, and community partners. Emel holds a PhD in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and has a background in translational and clinical research.
Emanuel Krebs is Head of Economics for the Regulatory Science Lab, co-located at CHSPR and the BC Cancer Research Institute. He is also a Staff Scientist with the Provincial Health Services Authority and a Fellow in the Academy of Translational Medicine in the UBC Faculty of Medicine. Emanuel’s research advances real-world evidence and life-cycle economic evaluation for healthcare decision-making, with a focus on regulatory science, causal inference methods, and mathematical simulation modeling.
Guiping Liu works for multiple projects, including the Value and Limitation in Hospital Utilization and Expenditures (VALHUE) Project, the Care Provision for Traumatic Spinal Cord Injury, the Foundry Wider Impact Study, and the Integrated Youth Services Study. He is interested in the application of statistical methods in population health, health services, and policy research.
Karen Long is the Regulatory Affairs Lead in the Academy of Translational Medicine in the UBC Faculty of Medicine.
Craig Michie is the Junior Data Developer for the BC Primary Health Care Research Network (BC-PHCRN) Data Repository. He holds an MSc in nuclear physics and has expertise applying machine learning to experimental data, analysis and experimental design. Craig is passionate about leveraging technology and data to improve society, including strengthening healthcare systems.
Dawn Mooney takes care of communications, event management, and research facilitation for a variety of CHSPR projects and teams, and has special interest in cartography. She is interested in methods of effective graphical communication of health data and statistics, and in using mapping and other kinds of data visualization to explore, communicate and address geographic disparities in health and health care. She also teaches cartography in the UBC Department of Geography.
Bret Nestor is a computer scientist whose research focuses on temporal and domain generalizability of clinical machine learning models. He is a member of the Academy of Translational Medicine and the Regulatory Science Lab, and is affiliated with BC Cancer Research.
Maryann Rogers is a Research Program Coordinator at the UBC Academy of Translational Medicine (ATM)in the Faculty of Medicine. Her research focuses on real-world evidence generation to inform health policy, programs, and decision-making, with methods interests in causal inference and decision-analytic modelling. She also contributes to the coordination and support of ATM research activities.
Shelby Schulmeister facilitates overall network management and research development as the Network Manager of the BC Primary Health Care Research Network (BC-PHCRN). Her role primarily focuses on disseminating knowledge, collaborating with Canadian Primary Care Research Network partners, and engaging invested community members, patients, researchers, health professionals, government and health authority representatives in BC-PHCRN projects.
Judea Todd supports the development and delivery of CHSPR Policy Hub programs and initiatives. Her work spans knowledge translation, stakeholder engagement, and collaborative planning, connecting researchers, trainees, and health system partners to advance health policy dialogue in BC.
Deirdre Weymann is Head of Evidence for the Regulatory Science Lab, co-located at CHSPR and the BC Cancer Research Institute. She is also a Staff Scientist with the Provincial Health Services Authority and a Fellow in the Academy of Translational Medicine in the UBC Faculty of Medicine. Deirdre’s research advances real-world evidence and life-cycle health technology assessment for healthcare decision-making, with a focus on regulatory science, causal inference methods, and patient preference integration.
