CIHR Grant Success – Primary Care Reimagined: Impact, Mobilization and Engagement Rapid Response (PRIME)


October 2025: CHSPR and School of Nursing faculty member Sabrina Wong is the nominated principal applicant on a successful $3M CIHR grant (plus $3M in matching funds) which will help fund the Canadian Primary Care Research Consortium (CPCRC) to build strategic partnerships to drive measurable change in primary health care (PHC) access and integration.

Kirsten Marchand is Recipient of a Michael Smith Health Research BC Scholar Award


September 2025: Congratulations to CHSPR Faculty Member and Foundry BC Research Scientist Kirsten Marchand, recipient of a 2025 Scholar Award for her research examining the individual, community, and system-level impacts of innovative mental health and substance use services for youth in BC.

CIHR Project Grant Success: The Impact of Integrated Youth Services on Youth Outcomes and Experiences in BC

July 2025: CHSPR faculty members Kirsten Marchand and Jason Sutherland are co-principal investigators on a successful 4-year $1.73M CIHR Project Grant for a study of integrated youth services. The grant will build on the collection and implementation of data at Foundry, a network of centres that provide youth services in BC. Drs Marchand and Sutherland are part of a large, interdisciplinary team of researchers interviewed here: Team collaboration and a major new grant strengthen Foundry’s evidence-informed services for young people

Welcome to New Faculty Members Dean Regier and Kirsten Marchand

July 2025: CHSPR is please to announce that Drs. Dean Regier and Kirsten Marchand are joining CHSPR as core faculty members, as of July 2025. Dr. Regier is joining the School of Population and Public Health (SPPH) as a tenured Associate Professor, and Dr. Marchand is joining SPPH as an Assistant Professor (Partner).

Dr Jason Sutherland Appointed Director of CHSPR



January 2025: Dr Jason Sutherland has been appointed Director of CHSPR, effective to October 31, 2029. As Director, Dr Sutherland will continue to develop and lead the research priorities of the Centre, develop educational pathways for health services and health policy students, encouraging interdisciplinary research and multi-disciplinary activities with groups at UBC and beyond.

Morris Barer Appointed to the Order of Canada


December 2023: Professor Morris Barer, the founding director of CHSPR, has been appointed as a Member of the Order of Canada. Morris dedicated many years of his career to leading and nurturing both the Centre and the careers of numerous affiliated faculty, students, and staff. Morris is a leader in every sense of the word and was endlessly visionary during his career about how to build structures and opportunities that help others succeed. Thank you, Morris, and sincere congratulations on this well-deserved recognition.

Recruiting for Faculty Position in Translational Medicine
